The vehicle (where a record says)

A record is under an engine, a drive or a series only where it says so: the characters of the vehicle identification number filed with a complaint, its text, or what its document says it applies to. A record that does not say is kept as "not stated". The filed numbers and the documents do not tell 4WD from AWD.

Candidate cause (the documents say what to do)

Red radio theft LED does not flash (manufacturer's counter not reset at assembly)

Starting with the 2003 model year, owners no longer enter a security code into the radio to activate the theft feature; it works automatically by learning a portion of the VIN.

During assembly of the radio a manufacturer's counter is set at 255 counts and should be set to 0 at the end of assembly; if the counter is not set to 0, the radio LED will not flash.

What to do

  1. If an owner wants the LED to operate immediately, cycle the ignition key as many times as required to run the remaining counts to 0.
  2. To count as a cycle, the key must be left in the RUN and OFF positions for at least 3 seconds each.

Caution: So that Retained Accessory Power (RAP) does not keep the radio alive with the ignition off, the driver's door must be open during the key on/key off process.
