The vehicle (where a record says)

A record is under an engine, a drive or a series only where it says so: the characters of the vehicle identification number filed with a complaint, its text, or what its document says it applies to. A record that does not say is kept as "not stated". The filed numbers and the documents do not tell 4WD from AWD.

Record by record

6 records state a cause or a remedy. Each record is shown as short labels in the order fault → finding the cause → correction. Press a label to narrow to the records that state it.

A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

    Fault
SOMETIME IN LATE JULY I STARTED GETTING THE PULSING OF THE BRAKES.
    Cause
RECENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A FAILURE OF THE ABS BRAKE SENSORS WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKES TO PUMP RAPIDLY AT LOW SPEEDS DUE TO THE SEALS OF THE BEARINGS GOING BAD AND ALLOWING DIRT AND ROAD SALT TO GET TO THE SENSORS.
    Remedy
I WAS TOLD TO WAIT FOR THE RECALL, AND WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE ABS DISABLED BY LOOSENING ONE OF THE SENSORS. (1 more)

What the documents say to do

Unwanted ABS activation at low speed (front wheel speed sensor mounting corrosion)

      Confirm

      • The reading should be at least 350 mV AC; if it is less, the wheel speed sensor must be replaced.

      Repair

      1. Dealers remove the sensor, clean its mounting surface on the bearing, apply rust inhibitor and grease, reinstall it and check peak-to-peak output voltage.
      2. The passage heading states that the repair is cleaning the wheel speed sensor mounting surface.

      Caution

      • Do not pry the sensor out of the bore; prying breaks the sensor body off in the bore.
