Work done
How it is said to have ended
- says it was fixed4
- says it held for a while2
- says it came back1
- says it did not fix it3
- result not stated12
A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

Recall2000 GMC YUKON XL ・ —
ABS activation recall in pickup trucks and SUVs
1Fault
- Corrosion may occur between the front hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor; if the brakes are applied at a speed greater than 6 km/h (3.7 mph) but less than 16 km/h (10 mph), the corrosion may cause an unwanted ABS activation.
- If this occurred where stopping distance is limited, a crash could occur.
- The condition does not set any ABS codes and does not illuminate the ABS warning lamp.
2Finding the cause
Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)
- Check the mounting surface on the sensor head for flatness against a metal machinist's scale or other straight edge, in multiple positions/directions (minimum 3).
- With the bearing rotated at about one revolution per second, the reading should be at least 350 ACmV; if it is less than 350 ACmV the wheel speed sensor must be replaced.
3Correction
Repair
- If the mounting surface on the sensor is warped or bent, the sensor must be replaced.
- Thoroughly clean the wheel speed sensor mounting surface on the bearing hub with a wire brush, sandpaper, emery cloth, scotch brite or equivalent to remove any rust or corrosion.
- Spray two thin coats of the specified rust penetrating lubricant (corrosion inhibitor) on the complete sensor mounting surface on the bearing hub, letting it dry between coats.
- When the corrosion inhibitor is dry to the touch (about 10 minutes), apply a light coating of the specified grease to the complete sensor mounting surface on the bearing hub and to the sensor and O-ring.
- Tighten the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

Known issuesFuel module reservoir assembly: fuel pump wire connectors may overheat - recall 05V-1551
Recall2000 GMC YUKON XL ・ —
Fuel Module Reservoir Assembly Overheating Recall
1Fault
- Some vehicles were built with fuel module reservoir assemblies whose fuel pump wires and/or connectors may overheat under certain operating conditions.
- If the exposed ignition circuit wire shorts to ground, the fuel pump fuse blows, disabling the fuel pump and causing an engine stall or no-start; if the ignition circuit or ground wire shorts to the fuel level sender card wires, fuel level readings may be inaccurate.
- If enough heat reaches the pass-through connector, a hole may form in it, which may turn on the Service Engine Soon light during the emission system diagnostics routine; fuel vapor, and in some cases liquid fuel, may leak from the tank through the hole.
- If enough fuel leaked out and an ignition source were present, a vehicle fire could occur.
2Finding the cause
Possible causes
- Fretting corrosion caused by vibration inside the tank was identified as the cause of high resistance within the fuel pump connector.
3Correction
Repair
- Dealers remove the fuel tank, remove the fuel module reservoir assembly and install a new service kit, which includes a new pass-through connector and a wiring harness for the fuel pump and fuel sender card.
- Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable, then remove and discard the "ECM B" fuse.
- In the revised bulletin, the fuel and EVAP pipes are capped with J 41413-300, EVAP Cap/Plug Kit, to prevent fuel system contamination.
- Remove the 4 pin Metri Pack 150 electrical connector from the vehicle's body harness.
- Connect the new GT280 connector to the vehicle's body harness with the 4 butt splice connectors contained in the kit.

Oil consumption measurement and oil loss causes
1Fault
Not stated
2Finding the cause
Possible causes
- Oil usage is directly related to the amount of fuel used: the harder an engine works, the more fuel and oil it will use.
- Towing a trailer or hauling additional weight will increase oil consumption.
Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)
- Inspect the oil pans, engine covers and engine oil cooler for leakage, and inspect for oil leakage into the engine coolant.
- Let the vehicle sit for at least 15 minutes after the engine is shut off before reading the oil level, so the oil can drain back into the crankcase.
- Verify that the PCV system is operating properly; blockages, restrictions or damage to it can result in increased oil use.
- Oil economy should not be tested until the vehicle has accumulated at least 6400 km (4000 mi); the only exception is an engine reported to use more than 0.946 liter (1 qt) in 1600 km (1000 mi).
- Check the oil level and record the vehicle mileage, date and exact oil level on the form in the bulletin, then make sure the oil level is at, but not above, the full mark on the dipstick.
3Correction
Repair
- If the final evaluation shows more than 0.946 liter (1 qt) used in 379 liters (100 gallons) of fuel, follow the published symptom diagnostics in the appropriate Service Manual.
Parts
- For powertrain warranty, labor operation 0600334 is Oil Consumption Test, 0.5 hr.
Caution
- The accepted rate of oil consumption for gasoline engines in vehicles at or above 8600 GVW is 0.946 liter (1 qt) within 379 liters (100 gallons) of fuel used.

Not stated
Read the sentences of the record
- Cause
- Certain vehicles were built with fuel module reservoir assemblies that contain fuel pump wires and/or connectors that may overheat under certain operating conditions. Fuel pump wires that overheat may become exposed and result in one or more conditions; 1) If the ignition circuit wire is exposed and shorts to ground, the fuel pump fuse will blow, disabling the fuel pump and causing an engine stall or no-start condition. 2) If sufficient heat is conducted to the pass-through connector, a hole in the connector may result, which may cause the Service Engine Soon light to be illuminated during the emission system diagnostics routine. Fuel vapour (and in some limited cases liquid fuel) may leak out of the fuel tank through the hole in the connector body. 3) If the ignition circuit or ground wire is exposed and shorts to the fuel level sender card wires, inaccurate fuel level readings may result. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs.
