The vehicle (where a record says)

A record is under an engine, a drive or a series only where it says so: the characters of the vehicle identification number filed with a complaint, its text, or what its document says it applies to. A record that does not say is kept as "not stated". The filed numbers and the documents do not tell 4WD from AWD.

Common on this vehicle:Vibration or shudderTyre failure (blowout, tread separation)NoiseWarning lightCorrosion or rustLeakAir conditioning or heaterABS activates (at low speed and the like)

Record by record

12 records state a cause or a remedy. Each record is shown as short labels in the order fault → finding the cause → correction. Press a label to narrow to the records that state it.

A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

Wheel Hub Assembly Bearing Nut Loosening Recall

    1. 1Fault

      • The inboard retention nut that maintains the hub bearing assembly can loosen, resulting in an ABS light indication, noise, and/or wheel separation from the vehicle; wheel separation can result in a vehicle crash.
    2. 2Finding the cause

Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)

      1. On 2x4 vehicles, raise the vehicle on an approved hoist first; the hub assembly is good if a yellow, green or blue paint mark is seen on the grease cap on the inboard side of the steering knuckle.
      2. If the paint mark is not present, remove the wheel and the brake rotor and clean rust from the hub assembly face to check for the date code stamping.
      3. Defective hub assemblies can be identified by the country of origin on the package together with a recalled date code, by the date code on the package, or by the date code on the hub assembly.
      4. If a round yellow sticker is present on the box label, the part is good.
    3. 3Correction

      Repair

      1. The hub assemblies were manufactured for aftermarket use; owners of these parts should have them removed and replaced as soon as possible.
      2. Federal-Mogul will replace the recalled hub assemblies free of charge.

    Suspension Service Communication

    1. 1Fault

      • Condition 1 (2009 or prior vehicles): a Service Suspension System message on the DIC with incorrect rear ride height, and DTC C0696 or C0711 set in the Electronic Suspension Control (ESC) module.
      • Condition 2: a Service Suspension System message on the DIC, possibly with low rear ride height under a heavy payload, and DTC C0711 set in the ESC module.
      • Condition 3: a loose hose hangs down at the left rear; upon inspection the hose may be found damaged or disconnected from the air inlet filter of the auto leveling suspension air compressor.
    2. 2Finding the cause

      Possible causes

      • Condition 1 can be caused by the wiring to the automatic level control (ALC) pressure sensor being shorted to ground.
      • Condition 2 may be caused by an internal fault in the ALC pressure sensor, which can occur when moisture gets into the sensor.

Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)

      1. The air compressor assembly may have to be removed to see whether the wiring is pinched between the compressor assembly and the frame.
      2. If system pressure at start up is below 10 psi (69 kpa), the system runs the compressor to add air to the shocks as a replenishment cycle.
    3. 3Correction

      Repair

      1. For condition 1, repair any damaged or shorted circuits and reposition the wiring so it is not damaged again when the compressor assembly is installed.
      2. The sensor is no longer serviced separately; to replace it, install a complete air filter, dryer and sensor assembly.
      3. For condition 3, replace the auto leveling compressor air inlet filter and hose assembly (PN 22197160).

Part numbers printed in the document

The numbers are as the document prints them. The name and the replacing number are what the pages of GMPartsGiant, a reseller of genuine parts and not GM, state. Aftermarket equivalents are not checked here (the links only search by number). Confirm the fit for the vehicle (VIN) before ordering.

      Parts

      • Vehicles built before May, 2012 need a jumper harness for the updated sensor, which is included with assembly PN 22964558; vehicles built in May, 2012 and later need no jumper harness and use PN 22941807.

      Caution

      • Do not replace the complete air compressor assembly for this concern.

Aftermarket ALSL or DLC Devices - Multiple Issues

    1. 1Fault

      • Bus or LAN traffic may stay active, leading to a discharged vehicle battery.
      • C0561 may be stored in the EBCM, leading to a traction control issue.
      • The engine warning lamp may come on with numerous communication DTCs such as U0100, U0101, U186B and U1862.
      • The transmission may not shift for one key cycle, with the TCM in default mode.
    2. 2Finding the cause

      Possible causes

      • Monitoring devices and other electronic accessories such as aftermarket cruise control or police speed checking devices may cause one or more of these concerns.
      • Many of the problems could be caused by an open connection on the HSCAN bus.

Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)

      • If normal diagnostics find no root cause, check for a tracking or maintenance-scheduling device plugged into the ALDL / Data Link Connector (DLC).
    3. 3Correction

      Repair

      1. If the device is available, try to duplicate the condition, then remove the device to see whether the condition is eliminated.
      2. If the condition remains with the device removed, continue diagnosing the vehicle with the appropriate Service Information.

      Caution

      • Some devices carry a second DLC connector, and the device and harness can be hidden so the technician may not notice that the diagnostic connector is not in the factory location.

Aluminum wheel bead seat cleaning and resurfacing procedure

    1. 1Fault

      • A tire slowly loses air pressure over a period of days or weeks.
    2. 2Finding the cause

      Possible causes

      • Abrasive elements may intrude between the tire and wheel at the bead seat, and the relative motion between tire and wheel lets the particles wear the wheel and tire materials.

Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)

      1. The corrosion may be on the inboard or outboard bead seating surface and is not visible until the tire is dismounted from the wheel.
      2. After a water dunk tank leak test, if the source of the leak is around the bead seat of the wheel, dismount the tire to examine the bead seat.
      3. Bead seat corrosion looks like blistering of the wheel finish, giving a rough or uneven surface on which the tire has difficulty keeping a proper seal.
      4. For vehicles with 32,186 km (20,000 mi) or less, the total combined linear area of repairable corrosion is 100 mm (4 in) or less; beyond that the wheel should be replaced.
      5. For vehicles that have exceeded 32,186 km (20,000 mi), the total combined linear area of repairable corrosion is 200 mm (8 in) or less.
    3. 3Correction

      Repair

      1. Use a clean-up (fine cut) sanding disc or biscuit to remove the corrosion and any flaking paint, back to material that is stable and firmly bonded to the wheel.
      2. Once the corrosion is eliminated, coat the repaired area with a commercially available tire sealant such as Patch Brand Bead Sealant or equivalent.

      Parts

      • Part number 16118, Patch Bead Sealer (1 Quart (= 0.946 L)).

      Caution

      • Do not replace a wheel for slow air loss unless the wheel has been evaluated and/or repair has been tried with this procedure.
