Some OnStar features no longer work (2G cellular sunset; the module is not broken)

Bulletin 23-NA-001 lists Yukon Models 2003 to 2014 (another copy lists 2003 to 2017); the involved region is North America.

Customers may comment on a notification and/or that some 2G OnStar module features are no longer operable.

One of the listed concerns is being unable to contact the OnStar Call Center.

All other functions within the OnStar module are unaffected, such as OnStar remote link, Bluetooth, microphone, and GPS.

The concerns may include an OnStar button malfunction and being unable to contact the OnStar call center.

On December 31, 2022, the 2G cellular signal will no longer be active, causing some OnStar module features to be inoperable.

The 2G CDMA cellular network was decommissioned across Canada in 2015.

What to do

  1. Any other function in the Telematics Communication Interface Control Module (other than OnStar) is to be diagnosed as directed by SI.
  2. The OnStar guardian app is being used as a replacement for the OnStar portion of the module.
