Record by record

16 records state a cause or a remedy. Each record is shown as short labels in the order fault → finding the cause → correction. Press a label to narrow to the records that state it.

A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

What the documents say to do

HVAC blower motor resistor module / connector overheating

      Repair

      1. Dealers install a new blower motor resistor and resistor module connector.
      2. Cut the wires back far enough to remove any melted insulation.

      Caution

      • The connector must be replaced even if it was replaced in an earlier repair.

    Cause
On certain vehicles, the interface between the electrical terminals of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) blower relay resistor module and the wiring connector (which powers the module) may be incapable of conducting higher current levels for sustained periods of operation. In addition, moisture and other contaminants (such as road de-icing materials) may enter the fresh air intake plenum and contact the internal circuit of the module or corrode the terminals. These conditions may cause the relay resistor module or wiring connector to overheat, causing various symptoms such as: the HVAC blower may not function on certain or all blower speed settings; a burning-plastic smell or smoke may be present in the vehicle, or; the HVAC blower may run continually with the ignition in the OFF position. These warning signs could, in certain instances, be leading indicators of an impending vehicle fire, which could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Owners will be provided with additional warranty coverage for the blower motor resistor module/wiring connector overheating condition. Under this "special warranty coverage", should this condition occur within 10 years or 240,000 km from first vehicle registration, dealers will install a replacement blower motor resistor and resistor module connector.

Known issuesRear HVAC ticking noise, no rear temperature or mode control, DTC B0434 / B3764 (revised auxiliary HVAC control module)1

  1. Manufacturer communication2003–2006 GMC YUKON XL ・ 2007-02-01

Rear HVAC ticking noise, no rear temperature or mode control, DTC B0434 / B3764: revised auxiliary HVAC control module

    1. 1Fault

      • The concerns are an intermittent ticking or clicking noise from the rear HVAC system, being unable to control the rear system temperature, and being unable to change the rear system modes.
      • A defaulted door stays at the default position until the code is cleared; clearing the code lets it operate properly until overtravel occurs again.
    2. 2Finding the cause

      Possible causes

      • The HVAC actuators may hunt for the correct commanded position, and this cycling can cause a clicking or ticking noise.
      • Overtravel of the HVAC system control doors can cause the listed conditions; when it occurs a DTC sets and the door goes to a preset default position.

Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)

      • The overtravel DTCs are B0434 for the auxiliary (rear) temperature door and B3764 for the auxiliary (rear) mode door.
    3. 3Correction

      Repair

      • Replace the auxiliary (rear) HVAC control module; it contains a new calibration that compensates for the actuator overtravel and the hunting, clicking and ticking noises.

      Parts

      • For all 2003-06 with CJ2 and C69, the auxiliary HVAC control module is part number 15832319.
      • The second design rear blower control module is 89024926 for Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade (short wheelbase) and 89018846 for Suburban, Yukon XL and Escalade ESV (long wheelbase).

Part numbers printed in the document

The numbers are as the document prints them. The name and the replacing number are what the pages of GMPartsGiant, a reseller of genuine parts and not GM, state. Aftermarket equivalents are not checked here (the links only search by number). Confirm the fit for the vehicle (VIN) before ordering.

      Caution

      • With the new module the rear blower speed may rise slightly (approximately 50 rpm); if the customer objects, the blower control module may be replaced with the second design blower control module.
      • Do not use the revised auxiliary HVAC control module unless one or more of the listed codes is set; it will not correct any other DTC or A/C performance concern.

    Remedy
Rear HVAC System Conditions Owners of some 2003-06 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Yukon models with RPO CJ2 and C69 may have one or more of the following concerns: - Intermittent ticking/clicking noise from rear HVAC system - Unable to control rear system temperature - Unable to change rear system modes The HVAC actuators may hunt for the correct commanded position. This cycling can cause a clicking or ticking noise. Overtravel of the HVAC system control doors can cause one or more of the listed system conditions. If overtravel occurs, a DTC sets and the door goes to a preset default position. When a system door defaults, that door stays at the default position until the code is cleared. Clearing the code allows the door to operate properly until the overtravel condition re-occurs. B0434 Auxiliary (rear) temperature door B3764 Auxiliary (rear) mode door Replace the auxiliary (rear) HVAC control module (part number listed in the table below). This module contains a new calibration to compensate for the actuator overtravel condition and the hunting/clicking and ticking noises. All 2003-06 with CJ2 and C69 Module, Auxiliary HVAC control 15832319 When using the new auxiliary HVAC control module, you may notice a slight increase in rear blower speed (approximately 50 rpm). If the customer comments that the increase in blower speed is objectionable, the blower control module may be replaced with the second design blower control module to correct the slight increase in blower speed. Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade (short wheelbase) Second design rear blower control module 89024926 Suburban, Yukon XL, Escalade ESV (long wheelbase) Second design rear blower control module 89018846 TIP: The revised auxiliary HVAC control module should not be used unless one or more of the codes listed above is set. The revised control module will not correct any other DTC or A/C performance concern.
