How it is said to have ended
- says it held for a while1
- says it came back2
- result not stated23
A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

What the documents say to do
HVAC blower motor resistor module / connector overheatingRepair
- Dealers install a new blower motor resistor and resistor module connector.
- Cut the wires back far enough to remove any melted insulation.
Caution
- The connector must be replaced even if it was replaced in an earlier repair.
Read the sentences of the record
- Cause
- On certain vehicles, the interface between the electrical terminals of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) blower relay resistor module and the wiring connector (which powers the module) may be incapable of conducting higher current levels for sustained periods of operation. In addition, moisture and other contaminants (such as road de-icing materials) may enter the fresh air intake plenum and contact the internal circuit of the module or corrode the terminals. These conditions may cause the relay resistor module or wiring connector to overheat, causing various symptoms such as: the HVAC blower may not function on certain or all blower speed settings; a burning-plastic smell or smoke may be present in the vehicle, or; the HVAC blower may run continually with the ignition in the OFF position. These warning signs could, in certain instances, be leading indicators of an impending vehicle fire, which could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Owners will be provided with additional warranty coverage for the blower motor resistor module/wiring connector overheating condition. Under this "special warranty coverage", should this condition occur within 10 years or 240,000 km from first vehicle registration, dealers will install a replacement blower motor resistor and resistor module connector.

Known issuesRear HVAC ticking noise, no rear temperature or mode control, DTC B0434 / B3764 (revised auxiliary HVAC control module)1
Manufacturer communication2003–2006 GMC YUKON XL ・ 2007-02-01
1Fault
- The concerns are an intermittent ticking or clicking noise from the rear HVAC system, being unable to control the rear system temperature, and being unable to change the rear system modes.
- A defaulted door stays at the default position until the code is cleared; clearing the code lets it operate properly until overtravel occurs again.
2Finding the cause
Possible causes
- The HVAC actuators may hunt for the correct commanded position, and this cycling can cause a clicking or ticking noise.
- Overtravel of the HVAC system control doors can cause the listed conditions; when it occurs a DTC sets and the door goes to a preset default position.
Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)
- The overtravel DTCs are B0434 for the auxiliary (rear) temperature door and B3764 for the auxiliary (rear) mode door.
3Correction
Repair
- Replace the auxiliary (rear) HVAC control module; it contains a new calibration that compensates for the actuator overtravel and the hunting, clicking and ticking noises.
Parts
- For all 2003-06 with CJ2 and C69, the auxiliary HVAC control module is part number 15832319.
- The second design rear blower control module is 89024926 for Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade (short wheelbase) and 89018846 for Suburban, Yukon XL and Escalade ESV (long wheelbase).

Caution
- With the new module the rear blower speed may rise slightly (approximately 50 rpm); if the customer objects, the blower control module may be replaced with the second design blower control module.
- Do not use the revised auxiliary HVAC control module unless one or more of the listed codes is set; it will not correct any other DTC or A/C performance concern.

- Applies to:Vehicles must have the electric rear window defroster (RPO C49).
- Repair:On 2007-2014 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade with moveable glass always replace the defroster tab (GM P/N 25916031) and the power connector (P/N 12034110); on all other vehicles reconnect the original defroster tab.
- Caution:Let the glass warm to the temperature inside the building; soldering creates a hot spot in the glass, so do not solder on cold glass.
- Caution:Heating the glass excessively, or repeatedly without time to cool, may break the glass.
- Caution:A silver-bearing solder must be used; do not attempt the repair with conventional tin/lead alloy solders.
- Repair:Remove the rear defroster power connector and crimp a new one to the feed wire; the proper connector, P/N 12034110, is in the Packard Electrical Assortment, Tray 18, Position 5.
- Repair:Prepare the surface of the used defroster tab and the defroster buss bar with fine grain (500 grit) sandpaper or Emery cloth.
- Repair:Wipe the prepared contact area with Kent Automotive Acrysol (or equivalent) to remove residual oil or dirt.
- Repair:Heat the new connector on the buss bar surface to be soldered, holding the connector and defroster tab in place with long nose pliers.
- Parts:Silver solder: Radio Shack (The Source in Canada) 64-013, 0.022" diameter.
- Parts:Solvent: P20005 Kent Automotive Acrysol Solvent (32 fl oz) 946 ml.
