The vehicle (where a record says)

A record is under an engine, a drive or a series only where it says so: the characters of the vehicle identification number filed with a complaint, its text, or what its document says it applies to. A record that does not say is kept as "not stated". The filed numbers and the documents do not tell 4WD from AWD.

Common on this vehicle:Gauge or instrument faultNoiseWarning lightCorrosion or rustLeakReduced brakingAir conditioning or heaterVibration or shudder

Record by record

45 records state a cause or a remedy. Each record is shown as short labels in the order fault → finding the cause → correction. Press a label to narrow to the records that state it.

A ribbon is as wide as the records that state both of its ends (only the commonest are drawn). A record that names several symptoms or components runs through each. Orange is records that say the fault came back or was not fixed. Results come from owners’ reports only; one that does not say is “result not stated”. None of this is a likelihood of a cause or a rate at which work succeeds.

Known issuesTrailer brakes applied whenever headlamps or park lamps are on (brake controller jumper harness)2

  1. Manufacturer communication2000–2003 GMC YUKON ・ 2003-02-01

Trailer brakes applied with lamps on / controller backlighting wrong: jumper harness differs for 2003

    1. 1Fault

      • With the headlamps or park lamps on, the trailer brakes are always applied, or the back lighting of the trailer brake controller illuminates only when the brakes are applied.
    2. 2Finding the cause

      Possible causes

      • The condition may be due to wiring changes in the vehicle electrical system for the 2003 model year.

Steps to confirm (in the document’s order)

      1. Inspect the brake controller wiring harness jumper plugged into the vehicle relay block body, which is under the left side of the instrument panel near the left kick panel, behind a plastic cover.
      2. The 1999 through early 2003 jumper has a reddish/brown 6-way connector and a tag with the last four digits of the harness part number; a second design 2003 jumper may have a white plastic connector with part number 5418.
    3. 3Correction

      Repair

      1. When a brake controller with its jumper attached is moved from a 2001-02 vehicle to a 2003 vehicle, the jumper harness connector must be changed.
      2. To use a 12171982, 15366255 or 15086884 harness in a 2003 vehicle, switch the wires in cavities A and D.
      3. To use a 15085418 harness in a 1999-2002 vehicle, switch the wires in cavities A and D.

      Parts

      • The 2000 jumper harness is PN 15366255, with a pink/purple tag reading 6255.
      • The 2001-02 jumper is PN 15086884, with an orange tag reading 6884.
      • The 2003 jumper is PN 15085418, with an orange tag reading 5418.

Part numbers printed in the document

The numbers are as the document prints them. The name and the replacing number are what the pages of GMPartsGiant, a reseller of genuine parts and not GM, state. Aftermarket equivalents are not checked here (the links only search by number). Confirm the fit for the vehicle (VIN) before ordering.

      1. If Z height is out of spec and the D height delta is greater than 1/2 inch (12 mm), adjust Z height until it is within spec and the P and R height deltas are less than 1/2 inch (12 mm).
      2. If adjustment is not possible, check the front eye of the rear leaf spring for matching color-coded tape or paint; both sides should be the same color. If not, switch springs side to side; if so, replace the leaf spring on the lower side only.
      3. If this is not possible, shim the body and/or pick-up box until the P and R height deltas are less than 1/2 inch (12 mm).

STARTING IN 2005, THE EXTERIOR ELECTRONICS (I.E. SIGNAL LIGHTS, STOP LIGHTS, HEAD LIGHTS, ETC) BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. (5 more)
    Cause
MY UNDERSTANDING, ACCORDING TO HUNDREDS OF REPORTS THAT I HAVE READ ON THE MESSAGE BOARDS, IS THAT THIS ISSUE IS CAUSED BY EITHER A WIRING HARNESS THAT LEADS FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO THE THROTTLE BODY OR IT'S A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ALTOGETHER.
    Inspection
THEY ISOLATED IT TO A JUNCTION BOX WHERE ALL OF THE ELECTRONICS TERMINATE.
